Scots activists celebrate
Scots activists are celebrating after nearly one third of the Scottish parliament’s members signed a motion from Liberal Democrat leader, Tavish Scott, calling on the Scottish Arts Council to continue funding the Scots Language Centre and Scottish Language Dictionaries.
Support for Mr Scott’s motion came from across the chamber and included senior members of the SNP, Liberal Democrats, Labour and Greens.
SLC Director, Michael Hance, welcomed the news that so many MSPs had signed the motion. “When you think that government ministers can’t sign motions it increases significantly the percentage that have signed.”
Scott’s motion was lodged after he was lobbied by concerned members of Shetland Forwirds, the local dialect campaign group.
