Government resolve to audit Scots language

Categorised in: Language Strategy

The Scottish Government has now announced its intention to hold an audit into the state of provision for the Scots language in accordance with its election manifesto pledge. The audit is needed to identify (a) what baseline information is available on current levels of provision for Scots, and (b) identify areas in which provision for the language might be expanded as part of, or additional to, the election manifesto. The Government is particularly interested in provision within schools. The Scottish Government would like to invite tenders from any research organisations who could take part in the audit. Research from the audit would be used to inform ministers with regard to possible future language provisions for Scots. It is anticipated that the audit will run from April until October 2008. Any interested organisations should submit an interest in the first instance which will be short-listed based on experience of conducting audits and knowledge of the Scots language. It is also anticipated that the budget for this research will be around £15,000 (excl. VAT). Any organisation wishing to be considered is being asked to submit an ‘Expression of Interest’ form by 13 March 2008. For more information please follow this link:
