Walking on the Moon
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the moon landings the Scots Language Centre has put together a couple of features, along with some poems in Scots, about the moon and space. It was on 21 July 1969 that the Apollo 11 lunar module called Eagle landed on the surface of the moon. Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon followed by Buzz Aldrin and the event was watched by an estimated 500 million people around the world. The moon has long held a fascination for human beings down through the centuries and people have longed to know what is out there, beyond our planet. For a little about the background to the first space flights please read our airticle on the left entitled 'Going into space'. For some facts about the word ‘moon’, and the moon itself, and to hear some Scots poems about space, please click on the article ‘The Final Frontier’.
